Keep Calm And Boost Immunity
This winter, more that ever, it is vital to get the right nutrition that builds you immunity in these critical times.
This winter, along with nourishing your skin, you must nourish your body with the vitamins needed to keep up your immunity.
It is common knowledge that we need a balanced diet throughout the year, but winters are especially tricky season as the cold tricks our body into getting complacent, and lowers your immunity. Hence, it is important to eat the right food to maintain your daily energy level.
Dr. nupur Krishnan, clinical nutritionist says “the idea about seasonal food is to balance micro and micro nutrient, regardless of the season. And we are fortunate to have green leafy vegetables available throughout the year, vegetables like spinach are vital in this season and mustard greens contain vitamin C. similarly seasonal fruits like guava have vitamin C worth four oranges. Stay away from supplements as natural foods provide high levels of vitamin C and E.”
She also cautions against eating fruits and vegetables that do not grow naturally in winter. “Dry mixed laddu is nutritious and contains unsaturated fat; so, your choThilesterol level will not rise. If you do have high cholesterol avoid overeating cashews and peanuts,” adds Krishnan.
Dr. Vidya Pathare, MBBS, a veteran in the field with 25 years of experience, says, “Winter is not a time to eat anything and everything. A dedicated and well-planned nourishment plan is a must. In India, we have beauty and nourishment traditions that have been kept alive, and on of these vital traditions is eating dry fruits. They ensure you have energy throughout the day, and at the same time, don’t pile up unhealthy fats in your body.”
