Should I take protein powder? Is it really very necessary?

You are asking is it really necessary to take a protein supplement or powder to build muscle growth faster.  Do you really want to know the truth? I must tell you this from my very personal experience. I will take you back to the year 1990s when gyms have just started flourishing as an Industry in India. When supplements companies or industries have seen potential in India before that very few people in India went to GYM. Most International companies are ready to come into the Indian Market, especially after the recession in India.  Generally, people play outdoor games in parks and in the streets as well even at the age of 25 or 30’s. People don’t go or exercise into GYM.

I knew I have joined GYMing because I was very skinny, and people, my friends make fun of me. In summer vacation my near resident friend told me to join GYM so that I can improve my muscle and don’t looks skinny anymore. I was in school and very young, very few people knew about health supplements. There were 2-3 Indian companies are in the market at that point in time. Even taking supplements at that point in time is like taking anabolic medicine or steroids.

Everybody taught about protein powder or supplement on the internet.

There was no internet in the 1990s in India. It’s just a fitness magazine where we just saw great bodybuilders or in books and because and we don’t have extra amount to buy these magazines, neither our families allow to buy them. I remember the New Delhi trade fair which held generally in the month of February, I borrowed money from my friend and bought an ARNOLD ENCYLOPEDIA book from there and keep at my friend’s residence.

After reading the ARNOLD ENCYLOPEDIA book, I enter into my mind zone and start analyzing myself to be a bodybuilder. I keep doing exercising and thought one day I will become the champion in bodybuilding like PRO bodybuilders. So, I start searching for a good gym and trainer, but I never lose hope and keep doing exercising and eating just normal food which everybody takes. In my house eating eggs is not allowed, taking chicken you can’t even think of. And because of that, taking any supplement for exercise not even feasible for us. I know we just think you have to lift heavy and keep your repetition of reps to a minimum of 12-15 no. of reps keep us going which was not correct. After putting in time and effort for almost 4-5 years I was still skinny but exercising which I love the most kept me going for many years more.

Today you can’t think of that. You don’t even continue your GYMing for 3 months because we expect results from the very first months. We always search on the internet for secrets about the best protein powder, exercising schedule, sometimes we apply schedules of Pro bodybuilders and always in search of the best supplement so that we can build our muscles faster and stronger. Well, this is natural, if there is a new car in the market why should you buy the old model car. It’s like buying an automatic version rather than a manual one. But you must have to spend the time learning to drive a car. Automatic or Manual is just a car option, not driving.

You must have to nourish your body naturally as long as you can without any protein supplement. Build your foundation stronger.  For example, you can’t accept your best result onboard just one or two months of studying, you have to study whole year to get good marks on the board result. Keep doing basic exercising as long as you can and eat healthy food or diet like eggs, fruits, boiled chicken (if you are non-vegetarian) if you are vegetarian eat

  • Soybean
  • Kidney beans (Rajma)
  • Chickpeas (Channa)
  • Milk
  • Cottage Cheese (Paneer)
  • Lentils (Dal)
  • Green Peas (Matar)
  • Mixed Seeds you can also take Potatoes, Pulses, Rice, Chappati in your food, increase your food Intake. If you exercise well almost 5 days a week, you can automatically gain muscle. Your body can’t increase your food intake itself, till you don’t punish your body in the GYM. You have to punish your body with the best form of exercise with a maximum no. of reps rather than heavyweight especially as a beginner (beginner for almost 0-4 years)

First, you should prepare your body to manage protein so that it can give you the best result. Otherwise, you will blame your coach/trainer or friend who recommended that particular Protein Brand.  This can be done only once doing a high repetition of exercising. Because after taking supplements you must have to increase your exercising one step ahead rather than following the same routine. If you are doing bench press with just 10-12 no. of reps with heavyweights, I must tell you are wasting your time and money both. Even taking protein supplements can’t help you much. One very and most important thing, if you age between 20-25 you don’t require a supplement, because you have a lot of testosterone in your muscle. Keep your focus on doing high repetition exercising with good form, don’t jump for heavyweights, or follow any professional bodybuilders routine. Keep focusing on bodyweight exercise push-ups, chin-ups, crunches, and squats, you have to master yourself in these exercises.
